Gemma—A Learning Management System
Controlant was developing a new Learning Management System when they reached out to me to help create an identity. They had been contemplating the name Gamayun, a Slavic symbol of wisdom and knowledge, and had chosen a platform that incorporates gamification, incentivizing employees by earning awards upon course completion. Recognizing Controlant’s global workforce, the name Gemma was chosen, a universally relatable alternative to the Slavic-inspired Gamayun. This choice also revealed the opportunity for a more cohesive visual narrative: a logo that embodies a miner, complete with a classic helmet and headlamp. This imagery would not only pay homage to the process of mining, but the headlamp also symbolizes Gemma’s role as a knowledgeable guide within the complex learning platform.
